Innovation Review findings released!

The findings of the National Innovation System Review have just come to us hot off the presses. They can be found here: at the Government's innovation website.

They come in two flavours: the full 228-page paper, Venturous Australia: Building Strength in Innovation, and the 38-page overview.

We're still going through the report and we plan to have someone at Terry Cutler's presentation of the findings at the InnoFuture 2008 conference tomorrow, but our initial look through is showing some definite promise.

Recommendations include:

  • The creation of a National Innovation Council (chaired by the Prime Minister);
  • That tax concessions should become a 40% tax credit and the threshold identifying a small firm should from from $5 million to $50 million;
  • "the adoption of full funding for the costs of research at universities" and "increased funding for universities and government research agencies".

What has you most excited? Does the paper go far enough? What's missing? Have your say in the green paper discussion.
