Intelligent manufacturing systems

Tony Strasser, Sinclair Knight Merz executive engineer, ICT & Automation, writes that Australia should re-engage with the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems scheme, after being one of the nations that helped to create it in the late 80s and early 90s.

He cites the scheme's successes and the fact that its current members are all leaders in R&D and manufacture, including the EU, Japan, US. The submission also reports Australia already meets all of the selection criteria, and that this is an established way to share innovation risks and expand international networking between business and academia.

It has the support of more than 20 signatories drawn from senior positions in business, engineering firms and universities.
