That is, they don't appreciate the need for an application so as to drive the need to innovate. Various Governments have been fueling up the innovation cars with all sorts of research grants, but the cars drive on roads to nowhere. No wonder so many innovations wither on the vine. </p> <p>Could I suggest that the Government make an attempt to make the connection between innovation and application by looking within itself. Where is the encouragement within Government to work with innovative parties to make use of the innovations? Why is Government Procurement Policy geared to favour their addiction to foreign imports. Why is private industry treated like the plague whenever the procurement subject is raised?</p> <p>Could I suggest that innovation in Australia could be vastly improved if the Government isolation shield is banished and public servants are encouraged to communicate their requirements to local industry before rushing off to the nearest foreign supplier.
