Overview
This submission makes the argument that “Innovation must be seen as a path to good design, with good design being the objective and not innovation in itself.”
This means that form and function must be considered at every stage of development, and an innovative product shouldn’t just work, it should consider things such as maintenance cost, the ability to recycle parts, durability, as well as ease of manufacture and use.
Most of the submission revolves around notions of design, including recommendations to enhance engineering degrees to teach more aspects of the profession and overall industrial design, as well as advocating the Government create an environment of innovation by looking to domestic products for technology solutions.
