The Hon. Kim Carr BA DipEd MA SEN is the Australian Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. He was sworn into the position in December 2007. While Labor was in opposition he held a similar combination of policy areas in the Shadow Ministry.

Biography

Carr was born 2 July 1955 in Tumut, New South Wales. He is married and has four children.

Professional

Kim Carr was a teacher in various Melbourne Northern Suburbs schools for ten years before becoming a policy adviser to the Victorian State Government on conservation, education, and Commonwealth/State relations. He was elected to the Senate in 1993, representing the State of Victoria. In 1996 he became a Shadow Parliamentary Secretary as well as being the Manager of Opposition Business, until he was elected to post of Shadow Minister for Science and Research, which he held from late 2001 until October 2004. His other shadow ministry posts have included Industry and Innovation, Public Administration and Open Government, Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation, Arts as well as Housing, Urban Development, Local Government and Territories. Before Labor came to power he was the Shadow Minister for Industry, Innovation, Science and Research. In December 2007 he became the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
