Abstract

“Measurement and reporting is vital for knowing “where you stand”, how well resources are used and how to improve performance. It is even more important in the risky and complex field of innovation management. Given the current situation, there is a critical need for robust, easy to use and standardised measurement tools. The need was recognised in the major Australian Government report, Mapping Australian Science and Innovation (2003). The authors of this report mentioned the lack of data nine times in the executive summary of the report ... But since that report was published, leaders and academics who passionately advocate the value of innovation and the need for more funds have shown a monumental lack of interest in innovation metrics.”
